The Chillicothe High School football schedule for 2010-11 quickly fell into place this (Friday) morning after classification and district assignments for the next two-year cycle of Missouri high school football were announced online by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
The CHS Hornets were grouped in Class 3 District 16 with two fellow Midland Empire Conference schools – Maryville and Cameron – and Kansas City: St. Pius X after enrollment changes bumped both Savannah and Smithville up to Class 4.
With one non-conference team in its district, that left Chillicothe to fill two weeks on its schedule. After the MEC teams lined out their league slate, the two vacancies for Hornets head coach Phil Willard and CHS athletics director Matt Brownsberger to fill turned out to be the first two weeks of the season. The opponents those weeks proved to be very familiar names.
Marshall will open the CHS season each of the next two years, just as it has the past two, followed by another North Central Missouri Conference school, Kirksville.
Next fall, Brownsberger reported to the C-T, the Chillicothe regular-season football schedule – which again will conclude with a Thursday night game – will be:
Aug. 27    at Marshall
Sept. 3     at Kirksville
Sept. 10   vs. Smithville
Sept. 17   vs. St. Joseph: Bishop LeBlond
Sept. 24   at St. Joseph: Benton
Oct. 1    at Savannah
Oct. 8    vs. St. Joseph: Lafayette
Oct. 15  vs. Maryville (district)
Oct. 22  at Cameron (district)
Oct. 28  vs. KC: St. Pius X (district) (Thursday)

The top two finishers in District 16 will match up with teams from District 15 (Richmond, Oak Grove, Odessa, Independence: Van Horn) in the first round of the state playoffs Wednesday, Nov. 3.
