An innovative Missouri program that brings emergency and disaster response training to churches, temples, mosques and other faith-based organizations is coming to Cameron on Friday, Dec. 4.
The Governor’s Faith-Based Organization Disaster Initiative works to assist Missouri faith-based groups in preparing their members for emergencies and to support those groups that choose to help neighbors affected by disasters through sheltering operations, mobile kitchens or other disaster response efforts.
The free conference runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Cameron United Methodist Church, 201 East Pine Street in Cameron. Lunch will be served. To RSVP call Connie English at 573-526-9234 or 866-971-8571 or RSVP online at: http://www.mo.gov/forms/fabodi/index.php
Cole County Sheriff Greg White is one of the driving forces behind the program and regularly travels the state educating faith-based groups on its importance to Missouri.  In addition to his extensive law enforcement background, Sheriff White is an ordained minister and has served as a Baptist Circuit Riding Pastor in logging camps and fishing villages in Southeast Alaska.
