Food, fun and fireworks are on tap Saturday night for the annual Chillicothe Freedom Festival in Simpson Park. However, the Independence Day holiday, for some, will begin with the 15th annual Freedom Run.
According to Matt Jones, program director for the Grand River Area Family YMCA, registration for those not already signed up starts at 6:30 p.m. in the shelter house near the tennis courts in Simpson Park. The race begins at 7 p.m. and an awards ceremony will follow.
So far, Jones says, there are around 35 people registered for the event, but more are expected to sign up on Saturday.
The runners or walkers may participate in either the 5K race or the 10K race and medals will be awarded to the top two male and female finishers in the event’s six age categories. Jones says refreshments will be offered along the courses, which are slated to be marked on Thursday.
