The Chillicothe Fire Department responded to a call on Wednesday afternoon in reference to a building on fire at LIV 519 in northwest Livingston County.

The 5,725 square-foot structure, owned by Richard Griffin, caught fire after a spark from a nearby trash fire ignited the building. Mutual aid was also received from Jamesport firefighters, who also cover that area.
CFD arrival time was 2:46 p.m. and at that time, according to officer in charge Lt. Andy Vaughn, the fire had already reached the ground.

According to Vaughn, Griffin had started a trash fire around the garage area and had gone inside the house. Once inside, Griffin heard a popping noise and saw that the fire had spread to the garage.

Inside the garage, the Griffins had more than 2,000 gallons of used cooking oil that they used to make bio diesel. The cost of damage was estimated at $125,000 for the property and contents. The garage was a total loss.

Firefighters were on scene until 3:25 p.m.
