Lloyd Eugene Mossbarger, of Chillicothe, formerly of Brookfield, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe. A funeral service will be Friday, January 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Park Baptist Church in Brookfield with Pastor David Blakely officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Lloyd Eugene, son of Elbert Andrew and Emma Mae (Lynn) Mossbarger, was born December 10, 1922, in rural Marceline. On April 5, 1942, he married Doris Jean Courtney who preceded him in death on April 17, 2014. Lloyd was a graduate of Laclede High School. He later served with the 15th Air Corps of the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II in North Africa and the European Theater in Foggia, Italy for three years. Lloyd worked as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1982. He was also a farmer and owned and operated several farms in the area. Mr. Mossbarger was a member of the VFW and a 50 year member of Brookfield Lodge AF & AM. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Local Firemen and Engineers. He was a member of the Park Baptist Church in Brookfield where he was a deacon and served on the Board of Trustees. Since living in Chillicothe he also attended the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. He is survived by two daughters, Marcia Beemer of Chillicothe and Cheryl Cavanah and husband, Shane of Marceline; 4 grandchildren, Brad Cavanah and wife, Sarah, Shelley Hayen and husband, Bill and Jeffrey Beemer and wife, Hillary all of Chillicothe and Trey Cavanah of Richmond; ten great-grandchildren, Ben Hayen, Bradley Hayen, Abbey Hayen, Macy Cavanah, Lauren Cavanah, Layne Cavanah, Livia Cavanah, Latimer Cavanah, Hadley Beemer and Brynley Beemer; one sister, Mayetta Smith of Colona, Illinois; three nieces, Ann Meservey, Carol Hunziker, and Linda Waddell; and two nephews, Donald Smith and Charles Smith. His parents; one grandson, Michael Cavanah; two half-brothers, Harold Mossbarger and Orvil Mossbarger; and one son-in-law, James Beemer also preceded him in death. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Morningside Center for their loving care and concern.
