The family moved to Omaha, NE, then on to Fort Collins when he was in third grade. He was active in 4-H and raised ribbon winning steers. He was a Boy Scout and a member of the Lutheran Church. Wrestling was his favorite high school sport, and woodworking was a passion. Richard enlisted in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and left for boot camp after graduating from Fort Collins High School in 1952. He married Janet V. Tadlock in Fort Collins on June 26, 1955. He and Jan lived in Kingsville, TX, Putuxent River, MD, Chillicothe, MO and moved back to Fort Collins in 1975. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Collins and Chillicothe MO. In 1963 Rich accepted a position as a salesman and the family moved to Chillicothe, MO. Jan and Rich enjoyed traveling and working on FCHS reunions. They missed family, life-long friends, and the beauty of the mountains. Every year they returned to CO. Rich was an excellent 4-H leader and member of the Saddle Club. He supported Linda in participating in many horseshows. As a devoted father, Rich taught Linda about raising animals, camping, rural life and respecting nature. He also loved fishing, and as an exceptional gardener, he made sure no one left empty handed. Rich and Jan were blessed with granddaughters and great-grandchildren whom they loved and adored.
