Roger E. Parkey, 96, a resident of Chula, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at the Veteran’s Home in Cameron, Mo.
Roger was born July 16, 1915 near Chula, Mo., the son of Willard N. and Clara B. (Dowell) Parkey.
He grew up near Chula and had lived in Arizona and Powhattan, Kan., before moving back to Chula in 1951.
He served in the United States Army 53rd Infantry during World War II and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. His service included the European, Northern France, and Aleutian Island Theaters.
He worked as a farmer all of his life, enjoying nature and the land.
He is survived by one sister-in-law, Doris Parkey, of the home; three sisters, Lorraine Clement, Hiawatha, Kan., Eva Sanson, Topeka, Kan., and Donna Schnitker, Union Star, Mo.; niece, Patricia Gray, Chillicothe, Mo.; and nephew, Michael Parkey and wife Rebecca, Chula, Mo.; several other nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Chester and Howard “Bud” Parkey; one sister, Laveene Clayton; two sisters-in-law, Esther and Louise Parkey; brothers-in-law, Benny Clayton, Lynn Clement, Ray Schnitker, and Charlie Sanson; and one niece, Jeanie Kerl.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 from 12 to 9 p.m.
