Marie Boland Carter, 96, of Chillicothe, Mo., passed away on June 20. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 at Lindley Funeral Home, 910 Washington Street, Chillicothe, Mo. A memorial mass at St. Columban Catholic Church, 1111 Trenton Street, Chillicothe, Mo., at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, with burial following at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery in Shackleford, Mo.
Marie was born on May 7, 1913, to Michael Boland and Sophia Strunk Boland in Dardenne, Mo. She lived her entire life in Missouri, including Mount Leonard, Malta Bend and Marshall, until her move to Chillicothe in 1956.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carleton Carter, who died in 1973, and her brothers and sisters, Anna Schreiner, Hilary Boland, Rose Rupp, Urban Boland, O’Delia Slattery, Cletus Boland, Corinne Wansing, Cornelius Boland, Lillian Fitzgerald, Viola Wansing, Clarence Boland, and Scholestica Boland.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society, St. Columban Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and RSVP, and she played in multiple bridge clubs. Her favorite pastime was dancing which she enjoyed well into her nineties. She celebrated at her 90th birthday party in 2003 by dancing with many of the hundred+ relatives and friends who attended. Last month she enjoyed her 96th birthday at her home with her children.
Marie is survived by three children and three grandchildren, Larry and his son Nicholas of Washington, D.C.; Karen of Lenexa, Kan.; and Ken of Lawson, Mo., and his two daughters, Amy of Kansas City, Mo., and Jessica of Columbia, Mo.
