William “Bill” Saale, 84, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., passed away at Cameron Regional Medical Center, Cameron, Mo., on Thursday, June 11, 2009 with his family by his side.
Bill was born March 29, 1925, the son of Clarence and Grace (Kinser) Saale. In Feb. 1952 he married Carolyn Wagy. They celebrated thir 57th wedding anniversary this past February. She survives of the home.
Bill served his country as an Army infantryman in Europe during World War II and was a 60-year member of the American Legion, Chillicothe, Mo. After being discharged from the Army he attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo., to study engineering, then worked at Citizens Bank & Trust, Chillicothe, Mo. He became a partner in Saale’s Package Shop, eventually owning and operating the business as a sole proprietorship. He retired from that business after 30 years to concentrate on playing golf and cards at the Chillicothe Country Club, Chillicothe, Mo. Bill was a life-long resident of Chillicothe, Mo., until 2007, when he became a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; three daughters, Mary Turner, Chillicothe, Mo., Margaret Richards, Kansas City, Mo., and Ruth Saale, Prairie Village, Kan.; one son, Dan Saale, Leawood, Kan; three granddaughters and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Thomas Saale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban’s Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Mo., on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 10 a.m. There will be a Parish Rosary held on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 6 p.m. with a family visitation to follow at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Columban’s Cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo.
