Byron David “Doc” Taylor, 78, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at his home.
Byron was born Jan. 19, 1930 in Olathe, Kan., the son of Leslie Edward and Edna Christine (Beal) Taylor. He married Jennie Lynn Williams on Sept. 18, 1955 in Chillicothe, Mo. She survives of the home.
Doc attended school in Utica and Chillicothe. He served in the United States Army from Oct. 16, 1951 to July 20, 1953 in the Korean War. He was in the 2nd Infantry Division, 72nd Med. Tank Batallion. He went through two leadership schools in Fort Knox, Ky. He spent two years at Missouri University, Columbia, Mo., of which one year was in advanced advertising journalism. Upon completion of schooling, Byron worked at the Norborne, Mo., newspaper for six months, then coming to the Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune where he served for 33 years until retirement. Doc was an avid golfer for 45 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Chillicothe Elks Lodge Number 656 and Friendship Lodge 89 AF and AM in Chillicothe, Mo.
He is survived by his wife of the home; one brother, Russell Taylor, Fort Smith, Ark.; one sister, Ada Allnutt, Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers-in-law, Roger Williams and wife Mary-Henri, Summerfield, Fla., Edward Williams and wife Susie, Saipan, MP and Ferd Lightner, Columbia, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Anita Williams, Blue Springs, Mo., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy Parsons and Marian Lightner and one brother, Donald Taylor.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. A family visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from 10 a.m. until service time at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 12 noon until 9 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be at the Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo.
