Virgil (VA) A. Wooden, Jr., 82, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo.
Virgil was born May 30, 1929 in Braymer, Mo., the son of Virgil A. Wooden, Sr., and Leonia (Jenks) Wooden. He married Betty Wahl on April 8, 1951 in Braymer, Mo. She survives of the home.
He graduated from Braymer High School in 1947 and then attended the Chillicothe Business College from 1948 until 1949.
He worked for Carl Hudnall for 27 years, for Leonard Distributors for 10 years, and Community Press for 8 years. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War during 1951 until 1953. He attended the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Chillicothe, Mo.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; one daughter, Karrol Duncan and husband Richard, Chillicothe, Mo.; one son, Kevin Wooden, Kearney, Mo.; two brothers, Jim Wooden and wife Betty Jo, Braymer, Mo., Donald G. Wooden and wife Ilene, Agency, Mo.; one sister, Shirley Paris and husband Lyle, Chillicothe, Mo.; sister-in-law, Judy Michel, Branson, Mo.; three grandchildren, Amber Burns, St. Joseph, Mo., Ashley Arth and husband Jason, Mooresville, Mo., and Kelsey Wooden, Kearney, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Abby and Jaxon Burns, St. Joseph, Mo., and Gracie and Duncan Arth, Mooresville, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Wooden and sister-in-law, Pat; infant brother, Kenneth; infant sister, Mildred; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Roby Meyer.
Services will be held Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., at 2 p.m. There will be a family visitation on Monday one hour prior to the service at Lindley Funeral Home. Friends may call Lindley Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 from 12 to 9 p.m. Burial will be held in Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo.
