David S. Metcalfe, 73, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Chillicothe, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at his home.

He was born on Dec. 28, 1936 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Donald C. and Mildred M. Metcalfe. In Sept. 1965 he married Sharon R. Cunningham. They have two daughters, Lisa Murray, Phoenix, Ariz., and Elizabeth Raimondo, Kankakee, Ill.

David graduated valedictorian from Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Mo., in 1954. He graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., with a bachelor of science in chemistry and a master of science in medical microbiology at the Medical Center in Columbia, Mo. He received a National Institutes of Health grant for the study of rheumatic fever.

A memorial service was held Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ford and Sons Funeral Home, Cape Girardeau, Mo.
