Roy J. Turner, 96, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Monday, June 23, 2008 at The Baptist Home, Chillicothe, Mo.
Roy was born Oct. 1, 1911 in Linneus, Mo., the son of Joseph William and Floy Lea (Kirby) Turner. He married Nola Ruth Stelplugh on Oct. 4, 1941 in Hale, Mo. She survives of the home.
Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe, Mo. He was a farmer. He served as deacon of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church, he served two terms on the Meadville School Board, two years as the board president.
Roy is survived by his wife, Nola, of the home; one son, James Turner and wife Laurie, Kirksville, Mo.; one daughter, Janet Waite and husbnad Danny, Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Jesse Turner, Chicago, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Steven Turner and wife Miranda, Kansas City, Mo., Andrew Turner, Kirksville, Mo., Scott Turner, Kirksville, Mo., Christina Worth and husband Derek, Topeka, Kan., and Kyle Waite and wife Jessi, Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Vernon Turner, Cliff Turner, Samuel Turner, Joseph Turner and John Turner, two sisters, Frances Wood and Ruth Turner and an infant sister, Alice Turner.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. A family visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. until service time at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Mo.
