Donald R. “Don” Burton, 86, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 11, 2009.
Don was born Oct. 13, 1922 in Saint Joseph, Mo., the son of Emery E. and Effie M. (Walter) Burton. On April 6, 1947 he married Patricia Lindsey in Chillicothe, Mo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 2003.
Don owned and operated the family business started by his father in 1932, Burton Typewriter Co., until 1988 when he retired.
He grew up in Saint Joseph, Mo., and spent most of his life in the Chillicothe, Mo., area. He spent a lot of time at his lake home in Gravois Mills, Mo. He graduated from Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Mo., in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with his horses and loved to fish.
He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Di Manna, Lakewood, Colo., and Jayne McCoy and husband Dennis, Cameron, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kerri Massey and husband Kevin, Denver, Colo., Micheal Goff and wife Stacey, Walker, La., Dan Hudgins, Saint Joseph, Mo., Megan Buckley, Broomfield, Colo., Chris Hudgins and wife Jennifer, Mooresville, Mo., Nathan McCoy, Cameron, Mo.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, his parents, and one sister, Ella May Lewis.
Graveside service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo., on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. There will be a family visitation on Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
