Kenney B. Hicklin, 98, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009 at North Kansas City Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

Kenney was born on Dec. 29, 1910 in Livingston County, Mo., son of Thomas Lee and Ethel Lilly Hicklin.

Kenney spent his early government career in Fort Belvoir, Va., and in 1951 moved back with his family to the Midwest where he would work for the Army Map Service and lived in the Northeast area of Kansas City.  He retired in 1968 and began volunteering to aid those in need, delivering Meals-On-Wheels for many years.

Those who knew Kenney remember a quiet, unassuming gentleman with a strong work ethic and a deep affection for animals.  Most of his beloved pets arrived on his doorstep as strays seeking a place to call home.  He was a Civil War historian and a talented writer.

He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Yellin and husband Bill, Riverside, Conn., and Elaine Bethke and husband Jim,  Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two-step great-grandchildren; one nephew and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jane Alice; his daughter, Mary Paul Beaver; his wife of thirty years, Geneva Lively; and his brother, Roy Clayton Hicklin.

Cremation has been selected and  visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009 at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel at 11924 E. 47th St., Kansas City, Mo. Private inurnment will be at a later date.             

Arrangements are under the direction of McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo.
