Several recent cases of missing large-breed dogs across the Chillicothe area have prompted the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department to begin an investigation into a possible dog-napping ring. We, here at the C-T, urge you to keep a look out for any suspicious vehicles or people around your home, whether you own a pet or not, and to take the precautions to keep your pets safe from such situations. Warning signs are slow-moving vehicles, usually with what appear to be homemade or professional cages in the bed. Leslie Patek of the Chillicothe Animal Shelter suggests either positively ID-ing pets, having them tattooed, or both. If this is done, dog-nappers cannot sell them for experimentation, and they can be more easily tracked. If you have any information concerning these recent canine disappearances, please contact the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office at 660-646-0515, or come by 901 Webster Street in Chillicothe.
