Last week, Chillicothe City Council members adopted a resolution encouraging all residents of the county and city to complete and return the 2010 Census questionnaire because the projected return rate is lower than it was at this time 10 years ago.
The return of these forms are extremely important because Missouri, which has nine Congressional members, is currently at risk of losing a member. So, if Missouri’s final count is off by as little as 10,000 people, the state’s delegation will shrink from nine to eight members.
And, officials say there are signs that point to rural areas in Missouri underperforming as compared to the metropolitan areas, which impacts state representation.
Completion of the forms doesn’t take long, but the benefits of doing so and sending them back will last a long, long time. Take the time to let your voice be heard.
