          Chillicothe Elks Lodge 656 are accepting donations for the victims of the deadly tornado that struck Oklahoma on Sunday. Elks volunteers were located in the Hy-Vee parking lot today (Wednesday), and will be there all day with a semi trailer tomorrow (Thursday). Acceptable items for donation include work gloves, shovels, first aid supplies, bottled water, Gatorade, diapers, formula, baby wipes, bug spray, cleaning supplies and cash. No clothing items will be accepted for this trip. The donations from Chillicothe will be delivered to the Elks Lodge in Midwest City, Okla. The truck, trailer and fuel for the delivery to and from Missouri to Oklahoma is donated by Brotherton Farms. Chillicothe Truck Repair is also assisting with the effort.

          Construction continues at Chilli Bay Water Park in Simpson Park this week. The city had been shooting for a Memorial Day Weekend opening. Josh Norris, Director of Chillicothe Parks and Recreation, said the May snowfall and rain has delayed work at the aquatic center. Norris hopes to open the park on Saturday, June 1, just two days after schools let out on Thursday, May 30.

          Chillicothe Municipal Utilities, in conjunction with Hope Haven Industries, have provided curbside recycling to the residents of Chillicothe since 1991.
          A Chillicothe Municipal Utilities worker dumps a load of recyclables at Hope Haven Industries. During the 22-year partnership between CMU and Hope Haven, more than 10,000 tons of commercial cardboard, 5,000 tons of residential paper and 1,000 tons of aluminum and plastic have been diverted from the landfall and placed back into the consumer consumption stream.

The City worked with Blue Valley Public Safety to make sure that adequate siren coverage would still be provided in the area. The public should notice changes to the siren coverage in that area.
