Kansas City 15th overall in 2017, WalletHub determines
A personal-finance research firm, WalletHub, has released its 2017 assessment of which United States cities provide the best overall sports experience to their residents and both of Missouri's two largest cities rate very, very high in a couple of specific sports.
Based on the study's criteria, Kansas City is the nation's best city for professional soccer. Sporting KC, which won the 2017 U.S. Open Cup this fall, is a member of the Major League Soccer (MLS).
St. Louis, which has drawn more tha 3-million fans to see the Cardinals for a number of years in a row, is rated as Major League Baseball's second-best city, trailing New York City.
Kansas City is listed as the U.S.'s 17th-best city in which to be a sports fan (encompassing both professional and collegiate sports).
In the mid-size cities category, Springfield, Mo. – home of Missouri State University and the Springfield Cardinals – St. Louis' Class AA farm team – is ranked 35th.
