Current 5-games winning streak, including beating St. Joseph: Benton twice and Maryville once, leads to CHS' third seeding for upcoming district tournament
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The 2018 Class 4 District 16 baseball tournament at St. Joseph is set to start on Saturday, May 12, with Chillicothe’s currently-streaking Hornets to be involved in the very first game as the No. 3 seed.
At Friday’s (May 4) seeding meeting, the Hornets’ 5-games winning streak – including two wins over St. Joseph: Benton and one over Maryville – catapulted them into the theoretically-more-favorable position of being the No. 3 seed behind No. 1 St. Joseph: Lafayette and No. 2 Savannah.
That means they’ll open against the lowest seed of the six teams, Cameron, a squad Chillicothe has defeated handily twice, and, if successful in that 1 p.m. game at Phil Welch Stadium next Saturday, face Savannah in the semifinals, rather than Lafayette.
The Hornets have lost three times in three tries against Lafayette thus far this spring. They’ll have their first clash with Savannah on the road Monday, the teams having been weathered out of their schedule season opener against each other in Chillicothe in late March.
Benton and Maryville will duel in the other first-round (quarterfinal) game Saturday, May 12, following the Chillicothe-Cameron clash. Saturday’s survivors will advance to the Monday, May 14, semifinals against the top two seeds.
