JAMESPORT – The Braymer Bobcats for a half gave the Ludlow-based Southwest Wildcats hope of a monumental  upset when they met a month or so ago.
Not so Thursday night in postseason play.
The semifinals of the Class 1 District 13 tournament started off with the top-seed Braymer taking Southwest apart right away and rolling on to an 87-26 trashing.
The Stet Cardinals, seeded second to the Bobcats, followed with a 53-43 decision over the host Tri-County Mustangs, setting up a late Saturday afternoon title-game pairing.
The boys’ championship game will be preceded by a 3 p.m. girls’ final between top-seed Southwest and No. 2 Winston.
Despite playing without senior point guard John Haley for a half for disciplinary reasons after he received a technical foul in the Bobcats’ first-round game, Braymer showed early it never intended on Southwest being a part of this game.
It jumped all over the Wildcats from the beginning, racing to a 13-1 lead midway through the first period. Braymer finished the opening period with a 19-5 lead. It would get no closer the rest of the way.
