A Spike In Optimism

A veteran squad with athleticism and a bit more height than many of the school’s in the past decade or longer has hopes high that the 2010 Chillicothe High School volleyball Lady Hornets will produce the program’s first winning season since 2004.
Veteran setter Bradee Gabel and all-around talent Ashley Myers head a group of five seniors who form the core of this year’s spikers squad which will try to improve on last fall’s
14-15-1 final record.
"We are,” returning head  coach Karen Jackson acknowledges the experienced flavor provided by solid cadre of familiar names. “We've got five seniors back and they all played varsity last year, so that's been very, very nice."
The beginning of the new season will be served up tonight when Chillicothe visits the new Liberty North High School for a 5:30 p.m. varsity/junior-varsity doubleheader (see directions to the school at right).
"We open with a very, very good team,” Jackson relates. “We played Liberty North this summer and they've got some very tall kids and some kids that play club ball, so they play all year around.”
In addition to Gabel and Myers, who will spend more time positioned to hit and block from the front line, rather than having to jockey all over the court as a passer and floor defender, hitters/middle blockers Katie Jo Ross, Konner Ferguson, and Kelsey Hinton are back.
