The Chillicothe Mudcats picked up a big win over the St. Joseph Mustangs on Wednesday night by the score of 7-5. The loss was the first MINK League defeat for St. Joseph (11-1) and improved the Mudcats’ league record to 4-3 and 5-3 overall.
The Mudcat offense used two big innings to do most of their damage. In the third inning after two men were out, Parker Hipp drew a walk followed by a Tyson Parks single to center field and another free pass to Mark Roninette to load the bases. All of that set the stage for Kyle Kinman as he lined a double down the right field line and scored all three Mudcat base runners giving the Mudcats a 3-0 lead. “We really had some great at bats and took advantage of a couple of walks to score our early runs, which is always good to see,’ commented head coach Adam Steyer.
Chillicothe would increase its lead in the sixth inning with yet another two-out rally. Brandon Thompson reached base the hard way after getting plunked by Mustang pitcher Kyle Jackson. Brock LeBlanc picked up his second hit of the game with a single and Tyler Lloyd would follow that with an RBI single of his own. New Mustangs pitcher Ben Stedronsky was greeted by the Mudcats lead-off hitter Casey Solem who promptly hit a triple scoring two more Chillicothe runs. Parker Hipp capped off the Mudcats offense with an RBI single to increase the Mudcats lead to 7-0.
Mudcat pitcher Cory Turdell was once again stellar for six innings allowing only two hits and no runs to the St. Joseph offense. “Cory pitched great again tonight. He didn’t have his best stuff, but he made big pitches when he needed to,” said  Steyer. Jake Aylward came on to pitch in the seventh inning and ran into a little trouble. The Mustangs’ offense was able to string together four straight hits and scored two runs to close the scoring gap to 7-2.
