LAWSON — Getting hitting from various parts of the lineup and playing “great” defense, according to their coach, Chillicothe High School’s softball Lady Hornets turned back a solid Lawson Lady Cardinals club 5-1 in non-conference competition Thursday.
The Lady Hornets (2-0) are scheduled to make their 2010 home debut Monday against Sedalia at 4:30 p.m.
Yester-day aft-ernoon, Chillicothe had only five hits, but they came from five players other than junior star Sarah Baldwin and they were grouped well.
Knotted in a scoreless tie through two innings, the Lady Hornets combined four of their hits with three Lawson errors to do all of its scoring in the contest.
No. 8 hitter Addie Stottlemyre opened the top of the third with a hit to left field. Sophomore left fielder Brooke Thomas followed with a sacrifice bunt on which she reached first safely when the throw to the second baseman covering was not handled.
