The Chillicothe Hornets defeated Lawson on Friday night 55-45 to win the consolation trophy of the Cameron Invitational basketball tournament.
For the Hornets (5-10), it was their first back-to-back victories this season and earned the program its first tournament trophy since finishing second in the district tournament in 2007 in Chad Snyder's last game as CHS head coach.
As for regular-season tournaments, it's the first time the Hornets have won a trophy since also capturing consolation at Cameron in 2005. That time they also beat Lawson in the finals after defeating Excelsior Springs in the semifinals, as they did this week.
A shocking 20-0 Chillicothe run – built on strong defense and rebounding and crisp offensive execution and diversity – was the impetus for the CHS victory. The long stretch came after Lawson hit a 3-pointer to begin the game's scoring.
