ST. JOSEPH — With weather and travel conditions potentially threatening their last scheduled regular-season action tomorrow, Chillicothe High School’s wrestling Hornets didn’t waste their chance last night to make sure they didn’t end 2009-10 team competition on a long losing streak.
The team outcome hanging in the balance, Hornets freshman 112-pound grappler Jon Day didn’t prolong the suspense, quickly taking down St. Joseph: Lafayette’s Cody Fellows and soon having him on his back for a 41-second pin which secured a 39-31 triumph for the Hornets.
An eight-match losing streak halted, the Hornets reached double digits in dual-match victories for the season.
Attributable in part to a significantly-expanded slate of dual matches, the Chillicothe mat men improved to 10-18, their first time into twin digits in dual victories since the 2005-06 season when they finished 11-9.
They will get the opportunity to surpass that 11-wins total if the St. Joseph: Benton tournament slated for Saturday is able to be held. Two wins there would give the 2009-10 CHS squad the program’s most duals wins since the outstanding 2002-03 Hornets went 15-3-1.
