KIRKSVILLE — The Chillicothe High School soccer Hornets were at Kirksville on Saturday and took it on the chin.
Kirksville scored early and often on their way to a 10-0 victory over the Hornets in a game that ended after 64 minutes of play.
The young Hornets are
“really struggling to compete with the stronger and more experienced teams on their schedule,” comments coach Bill Allison of the Hornets, especially as the injury bug continues to bite.
Chillicothe’s Quentin Mammen went down early in the Kirksville game with an ankle injury and Laine Saunders also was hurt with a possible shoulder separation, reported the CHS head coach.
Colton Whiteside and Austin Ireland both are still struggling with prior injuries that kept them out of the game, as well, Allison noted.
In Saturday’s game, senior Jacob Stull stepped in to the goalkeeper’s spot part-way through the game and did okay in his debut there, according to Allison,
Jarek Schmidt, already filling in in the next for injured freshman Troy Toedebusch, was shifted up to midfield during the action to try to bring his powerful legs into use as an offensive weapon, once Kirksville was up.
