Chillicothe Cardinals right fielder Blake Stephens slides along the grass after just missing connections on his lunging attempt to catch a drive to right-center off the bat of Moberly’s Coree Embree in Saturday’s first game. The hit went for a triple. Coming over to back up the play is center fielder Bryce Young. Moberly swept the American Legion baseball doubleheader at Chillicothe’s “June” Shaffer Memorial Park 14-6 and 14-4.

Chillicothe, Mo. -

The Moberly Sixers had the Chillicothe Cardinals’ number in American Legion baseball Saturday: 14.
The Sixers, sponsored by Bazan-Bailey Post No. 6, scored that number of runs in both games in sweeping the host Cardinals 14-6 and 14-4 in late-afternoon and evening action at “June” Shaffer Memorial Park.
The 9-inning opener counted in the Missouri District 2 regular-season standings, while the non-district second game was limited to five innings.
With the pair of defeats in their first home action of 2008, the Cardinals – sponsored by Vern R. Glick Post No. 25 of Chillicothe – saw their record decline to 2-6. In district play, they are 1-2. Moberly left town 13-1 overall and unbeaten in district action.
The Cardinals’ next games are scheduled for this coming Saturday in Chillicothe, but at a different location. They will host Unionville in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Daryl Danner Memorial Park. That is because the Chillicothe Mudcats will be using Shaffer Park for a home game of their own.
