The Chillicothe High School cross country runners traveled to the Savannah Invitational Saturday and had a strong showing, according to coach Tim Riekena. The Hornets placed fourth among six teams in the boys’ competition and lone female runner Mary Kate Taylor finishing near the top in her race.
“For our first morning race of the year, the team ran well,” coach Riekena commented.
Individually for the Hornets, Daniel Riekena placed fifth and Thomas Cassity 14th with both earning medals.
“They both found themselves back in the pack early, but were able to move up as the race moved on, “ stated the coach.
Additionally, Caleb Coleman ran his best race of the year, a 19:31 good for 28th place.
In the girls’ competition, Mary Kate Taylor also earned a medal by placing fifth.
She too ran her best race of the year, according to the CHS coach, with a 20:40.
Among the other CHS varsity boys, Trent Putnam finished 30th, Drew Jones 32nd, Jake McKiddy 38th, and Travis Henry 44th.
