Chillicothe Beauty Academy Offering Free Back-to-School Haircuts
With a new school year just around the corner, Chillicothe Beauty Academy & Barbering is lending a helping hand to local families by offering free back-to-school haircuts. The event will take place on Thurs., August 15, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The free service is available to children and teens ages 5 to 18, and no appointments are required. All haircuts will be given on a walk-in basis only throughout the day.
Hunter Education Class Set for Aug. 19
A Hunter Education Skills Course will be offered in Livingston County on August 19. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will conduct the class at the Litton Ag Center in Chillicothe from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The program is open to participants age 11 and older. Parents are welcome to remain with their child during the course. Pre-registration is required and may be completed online at https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/210767.
Participants must complete the knowledge portion of certification prior to attending and present proof of completion when attending the class. The knowledge requirement may be satisfied either through the paid online course or by completing the chapter review questions in the student Hunter Education manual at no cost.
Student manuals are available free of charge at any MDC office and can also be accessed online at https://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZCt. The online course is also available through the same website.
Completion of a Hunter Education Course is a legal requirement for most first-time hunters in Missouri. Beyond fulfilling state regulations, the course is designed to equip new hunters with the knowledge and skills necessary to hunt safely, ethically, and responsibly.

The annual meeting of the Brassfield Cemetery Association will be held Saturday, August 30 at 10 a.m., at 5888 Highway Y, Chillicothe.
Cameron Cemetery Association to Meet Sept. 6
The Cameron Cemetery Association of Livingston County Missouri will have its fall meeting Saturday, September 6, at the Hale City Hall at 9 a.m. All interested parties are invited to attend.
Volunteers Wanted to Prep “Out of the Darkness” Walk for Suicide Prevention
Area residents are invited to take part in the “Out of the Darkness” Walk for suicide prevention on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2025. The event will be held at Grand River Technical School in Chillicothe, Missouri, with the site opening at noon.
Organized in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the walk aims to raise awareness, honor those lost to suicide, and offer hope and connection to anyone affected by mental health struggles.
Local organizers are currently seeking support from the community to help make the event meaningful and visible. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with placing yard signs, distributing flyers, or suggesting public locations for informational materials and awareness coasters.

Farmers’ Electric Coop to Host 87th Annual Meeting
Farmers’ Electric Cooperative is gearing up for its 87th Annual Meeting, and members are encouraged to mark their calendars. The event will take place on Sept. 23, 2025, at the Chillicothe Warehouse, located at 201 W. Business 36.
Members can take advantage of the drive-thru gift line from 4- 6:15 p.m. to register, cast votes, and receive a goodie bucket along with a bill credit. All are invited to stay to attend the Business Meeting which will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Tent Revival Held Four Days a Week
A tent revival is underway in Chillicothe, inviting everyone to gather for evenings of worship and encouragement. The East Gate Tent Revival is held south of Hy-Vee at 1210 Washington Street, right off Highway 65.
Services will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 6:30 p.m., continuing weekly until further notice. Organizers say the revival is open to all, with a focus on faith and community.
