Chillicothe Middle School’s seventh- grade Lady Hornets basketball team came within a shot at the buzzer of being champions of the Cameron Tournament last week, CMS coach Kelsey Butler reports. East Buchanan hit the last-second shot in the championship contest to take a 44-42 decision in the title game. The Lady Hornets rallied after trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but struggled to shut down one opponent who finished with 31 points, Butler relates. Lexy Smith led the way for Chillicothe with 20 points, as well as several rebounds and assists, the CMS coach relates, while Emmy Lent had several steals, finished strong on her breakaway layups, and added 12 points. Additionally, she discloses, Matti Darr had six points and Ali Probasco and Brynley Beemer two points each, while Kami Snyder battled for rebounds.
