Sammy Cruz of Edison, N.J., and the 2024 Chillicothe Mudcats, seen ripping a basehit in a July 1 home game against Carroll, Iowa, continued his hot recent hitting July 18-19 in MINK League losses at Nevada (Mo.) and Clarinda (Iowa). He hit his first home run of the summer, college-level, wood-bat season with a man on in the fourth inning of the eventual 10-7 loss at Nevada and finished the game three for five with two runs driven in and two scored. At Clarinda the next night, he hit safely in a sixth-straight game with a second-inning single which set up the Mudcats' first run of the eventual 5-4 extra-innings loss.
