Library Hosts Writer Event on Oct. 29
The Livingston County Library is hosting a Writer’s Circle event on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. just in time for the Halloween season. This gathering offers an opportunity for writers of all levels to come together and share inspiration, creativity, and perhaps a few spooky tales.
Whether you’re a seasoned writer working on spine-chilling stories or simply someone looking to connect with fellow writers, this event provides the perfect setting to let your imagination run wild. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite writing tools and a little bravery as they craft their hauntingly good stories.
The event will be held at the Livingston County Library, located at 450 Locust St. Come ready to enjoy an evening filled with creativity, thrills, and the eerie atmosphere that only October can bring.
How to Dine With Diabetes. Food Skills Class Offered by Livingston County Extension
The University of Missouri Extension (MU Extension) in Livingston County is offering a healthy cooking class for individuals with diabetes, Dining with Diabetes.
The Dining with Diabetes course meets four consecutive weeks, Oct. 30, Nov. 6, 13, and 20, from 10 am to 12:30 p.m. The classes will be held in Chillicothe. The location of the program will be shared after registration is completed.
Space is limited to the first 15 people who register.

Boofest Set for Halloween
Main Street Chillicothe is hosting the 2024 Chillicothe Boofest set for Halloween afternoon from 4-6 p.m. in downtown Chillicothe at the Silver Moon Plaza. Children of all ages are encouraged to dress up and come with their families to a downtown trick-or-treat event around the Chillicothe Courthouse Square.

Halloween Spooktacular in Downtown Tina
Weeds Greenhouse & Gardens LLC invites the community to a Halloween Spooktacular in Beauti-Fall Downtown Tina on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5-6:30 p.m. The event will include a Decorated Pumpkin Contest, Trunk or Treat, and a Costume Parade, with all ages encouraged to participate—whether you’re a kid, a parent, a grandparent, or a college student home for the holiday!
Weather permitting, the event will be held outdoors, creating a perfect opportunity for some fall fun in the fresh air. Everyone is invited to join the festivities and celebrate Halloween in a family-friendly, festive atmosphere.
There will also be a costume parade and prizes for various ages from newborn to adult.

Church Women United to Celebrate World Community Day on Nov. 1
Church Women United will meet on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 9:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church, 1414 Walnut Street, Chillicothe, to celebrate World Community Day.
The name of the program is “What Does the Lord Require of CW-You? Walk Humbly with God.” It is based on Matthew 5:5 which states, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
Invite a friend and join us as we meet here in Chillicothe. World Community Day is observed worldwide on this day.
Church Women United is very important locally as it is the sponsor for the Mobile Meal Program. We are in need of volunteers to help deliver meals. Most volunteers just do one day a week for the month their church is responsible and fill-in volunteers are also needed. Either way the time commitment is minimal. Bosworth High School Hosts Haunted School Event Nov 1-2
Bosworth High School Student Council is announcing their Haunted School event, taking place on Nov. 1-2 from 6-9 p.m. at Bosworth High School, located at 102 E Eldridge St.
This spooky event will feature three floors of horror in the school’s 1911 building, offering a thrilling experience for all who dare to attend. The Haunted School is open to the public, with chills and thrills guaranteed. Guests are encouraged to come and support the student council for a night of unforgettable Halloween fun.
Cultural Corner Offers November Classes
The Cultural Corner Art Guild & Gallery in Chillicothe is hosting several creative events throughout November designed for both children and adults to unleash some creativity alongside others.
The first event, “No School Kid’s Art Day,” will be held Nov. 1, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. This day-long workshop is for children age eight and older and will feature various art activities while Chillicothe R-II is not in session. Lunch and snacks are provided, and the cost is $60 per child. Space is limited to 15 participants, offering a small and cozy environment for young artists.
On Nov. 12, from 6-8 p.m., the gallery will host a Holiday Painting Workshop with Marj Locker. Participants will create a festive, holiday-themed painting. The cost is $30 for members and $35 for non-members, offering a fun way to prepare for the holiday season with artistry.
Following this, the Barn Quilt Wood Block Paint Class with Patti Taylor will take place on Nov. 14, from 1-3 p.m. This class is limited to 12 participants and costs $50 for members and $55 for non-members. Participants will design and paint their own barn quilt-inspired wood block.
Seniors aged 60 and older from Livingston County may inquire about free class opportunities.

Holiday Market and Quarter Auction to be Held Nov. 2
Creative Pathways is hosting a Holiday Market and Quarter Auction on Nov. 2 at the Walsworth Community Building in Marceline as part of a fundraising effort to send supported individuals to Walt Disney World in 2025 starting at 10 a.m. The event will feature a variety of activities, including a quarter auction, 50/50 raffle, and multiple food options.
Attendees can enjoy delicious food throughout the day, with cinnamon rolls available starting at 10 a.m. until sold out, walking tacos from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. and a pork dinner with sides served from 4-6 p.m.
The quarter auction kicks off with paddle sales from 4-6 p.m. and the auction itself begins at 6:30 p.m. A 50/50 raffle will take place live at 8 p.m.
In addition to the auction and food, over 30 local vendors will be present, offering a wide array of items including clothing, candles, gifts, ceramics, jewelry, and more. Proceeds from this event will go toward helping Creative Pathways and Better Days send supported individuals on a dream trip to Disney World in 2025.
The community is invited to come out for a day of shopping, raffles, and great food, all in support of a worthy cause.
Banquet to support ABBA House
Freedom City Ministries is hosting a special Dinner Banquet on Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Building, located at 909 Washington St., Chillicothe. This event will support the ABBA House Restoration Ministry, an organization committed to community healing and restoration.
The banquet will feature a five-course meal with a choice between Chicken Parmesan or Bacon-Wrapped Pork Loin. Guests are invited to enjoy an evening of relaxation, entertainment, and fellowship while contributing to a meaningful cause.

Edgewood Cemetery Offers “Moment of Remembrance” for Veterans
The Edgewood Cemetery Board of Directors are proud to present a “Moment of Remembrance” for those Veterans that we’ve lost and uplifting words for those who are returned safely to us.
Regardless of a family’s connection to Edgewood Cemetery, we encourage all those families and friends of our brave soldiers to come together for this special event just before Veteran’s Day.
At 5 p.m., Nov. 6, just inside the gates of the Edgewood Cemetery located at 1350 Edgewood Drive in Chillicothe, the Board of Directors of Edgewood Cemetery will present a brief ceremony to honor our Veterans.
Veteran Tim Munday will greet guests and uplift the moment in prayer. Echo Taps will be played by local businessman, Mel Gregg, and MO Boys State 2024 attendee, Alton Keller.
All are welcome at this public event, regardless of your Veterans final resting place.

Veterans Day breakfast at Hy-Vee
Hy-Vee in Chillicothe will be hosting a special Veterans Day Breakfast open to all veterans and their families. The event will be held Nov. 11 from 6-10 a.m. This event is the 25th annual Veterans Day breakfast and it is free of charge for all veterans.
In addition to the free buffet-stye breakfast, veterans and active duty military will also receive 15% off their grocery purchase both in-store and online all day long only on Nov. 11. This event will be held at 1210 Washington Street at Hy-Vee n Chillicothe.
Highview Baptist Church Hosts Operation Christmas Child Event on Nov. 13
Highview Baptist Church is gearing up for its annual participation in Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, and the community is invited to take part. The shoebox packing event will be held Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. where volunteers will gather to fill boxes with gifts and essential items for children in need around the world.
The church is also accepting item donations and financial contributions to support the effort. Shoeboxes will be filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and more, providing joy and hope to children in countries affected by poverty and crisis.

CHS to Perform ‘Shrek’ Musical; Set for Nov. 15
Get ready for the curtain call of ‘Shrek: The Musical’ as performed by Chillicothe High School students. Under the direction of Lisa Rule, there will be a live pit band with Sarah Cavanah, Chillicothe Director of Bands, leading the pit. Michelle Phillps will be the musical director.
Opening night for the production is set for Nov. 15.

Chula Community Center to Host a Hog Supper on Nov. 16
The Chula Community Center will host a Hog Supper on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. at 625 Mansur Street, Chula. The center will provide the hog and potatoes, while community members will contribute sides, salads, and desserts. Admission is $12 per plate for those aged 10 and older, and $6 for children under 10. The hog, donated by an anonymous contributor, was secured by Lisa Kellison, who is also leading the event. Proceeds will go toward replacing the center’s outside doors and refreshing the bathrooms.
Turkey Trot 5K to Raise Funds for Scholarships in Chillicothe
Runners and walkers alike are invited to join the Sol Oasis Turkey Trot 5K on Nov. 16, at Simpson Park. The event, put on by the Sol Oasis Scholarship Inc., which begins at 8 a.m. will raise scholarship funds for Chillicothe High School seniors, making it a fun and impactful way for participants to support the local community.
Participants can register early to take advantage of the $30 fee, which includes a race T-shirt for those who sign up before Oct. 25. After that date, registration will cost $35, though shirts are not guaranteed. Kids under 14 can participate for $20, with a guaranteed T-shirt for early registrants.
In addition to the 5K run, the event will feature a Best Costume contest, with the winner taking home a turkey. Costumes are optional, but will add a festive flair to the morning’s activities. Whether you’re an avid runner or simply want to show support, the Turkey Trot promises to be a great day of community involvement and giving back.

Elks to Host Holiday Bazaar
The Chillicothe Elks Auxiliary is hosting a Holiday Bazaar. This is being held at Chillicothe Elks Lodge #656 at 413 Harvester Road on Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be numerous local vendors on site with all sorts of unique holiday gift ideas and items for all. There will be a concession stand available as well as the chance to catch Santa off break from the North Pole for a photo session. Santa will be available at the Lodge until 2 p.m.
Bishop Hogan to Host Holiday Bazaar
Be sure to get prepared for the upcoming Holiday Bazaar hosted by Bishop Hogan Memorial School Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be loads of vendors with numerous products, holiday décor, and unique homemade goods.
There will also be soup and cinnamon rolls for lunch for $8 sponsored by the Bishop Hogan PTO. While there, be sure to purchase a raffle ticket to win a Christmas tree that is already decorated and ready to go. On hand will also be a photographer taking Christmas photos.

The Blue Frog Bar in Linneus is celebrating a reopening event Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. Brand X Band KC will be headlining the event with live music. It will be located at 105 East Elm in Linneus.
Meadville Lions Turkey Trot to Benefit Linn Co. Food Pantry
Kick off your Thanksgiving Day with a morning run or walk at the annual 5K event, benefiting the Linn County Food Pantry with a Turkey Trot in Meadville put on by the Meadville Lions Club organization. Participants are invited to gather at the intersection of West Crandall and Linn Street for registration starting at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 starting at 106 West Crandall in Meadville city limits.

Kids Christmas Event to be Held at LivCo Courthouse
Main Street Chillicothe is excited to announce the upcoming Kids Christmas event at the Livingston County Courthouse in Chillicothe, where children are invited to participate in a festive shopping experience.
On Dec. 6 from 4-6 p.m. kids ages 4 to 14 will have the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts for their loved ones. Helper elves will be on-site to assist young shoppers, while local downtown merchants will offer specially-priced gifts for under $15.
In addition to shopping, children can create Christmas cards while their purchases are wrapped free of charge, making for a memorable experience.
