This time of year, there is no escaping the mountains of marshmallowy treats known as "Peeps." But this year, instead of eating them or performing weird microwave experiments on them, persons can use them to create marshmallow masterpieces and enter them in Main Street Chillicothe's first annual Downtown Peep Show.

The rules are simple: Come up with a fabulous idea or theme, submit your entry form, create your amazing artwork using Peeps as the primary artistic medium, and then enter it into the Downtown Peep Show. You can use other candy or whatever items fit your theme, but Peeps must play a starring role.

The process is fun: Enter the Peep Show filling out a form available at several Chillicothe locations (including the Commerce Center at 514 Washington Street). Create your marshmallow masterpiece(s), then submit your artwork(s), along with entry form, to Main Street Chillicothe on or before March 22. Get out and about downtown to view all the entries in downtown storefronts from March 18-29. Finally, on March 30, invite all your friends and family to the actual Downtown Peep Show, where they can vote on yours and other candy creations. The Peep Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Second Floor Historic Courtroom, in the Livingston County Library.

Enter on your own, with a friend, as a family, or through a business. Young or just young at heart, the Downtown Peep Show is something for everyone to have fun with. If you have more than one entry, please complete separate forms. Fees of $10 per entry may be made in one sum payment. All proceeds go toward the downtown revitalization efforts of Main Street Chillicothe. Entry forms and fees may be mailed to Main Street Chillicothe, PO Box 1022, Chillicothe, MO 64601, or dropped off at the Chillicothe Commerce Center, 514 Washington St.

This inaugural community event was made possible by the generous sponsorship of The Yogurt Stop, Dr. Lebsack, and Sensenich Jeweler.
