She attended elementary, middle and high school in Chillicothe and was her high school valedictorian. She graduated from the University of Missouri and did graduate work at Columbia University. She married James C. Short, a Marine Corps captain at the time, in a ceremony in her parents' Chillicothe home in August, 1945, and they were together until his death in 1989. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. , at Christ Episcopal Church, 36 S. Main Street, Pittsford, NY.
