The 42nd annual St. Columban’s Fall Festival took place on Sunday afternoon. Festival goers experienced great weather with the high being about 75 degrees. The event featured live entertainment, face painting, a large raffle, several children’s games, washers, a dunking booth and the announcement of the 2015 Fall Festival’s Unsung Hero. This year’s Unsung Hero award went to Chillicothe Mayor, Chuck Haney. Haney was caught completely off-guard by the announcement as he thought he just there to be the master of ceremonies as he has been for several years now. Unlike Mayor Haney, his family knew about the award ahead of time. Haney said he didn’t even notice his son being there until after the announcement. Father Ben Kneib of the St. Columban’s Catholic Church was the one who announced Mayor Haney as the recipient. Father Kneib said, “...Chuck is very generous with his time and service regarding Bishop Hogan and St. Columban Church. He does so, not for the accolades, but to help others. It is obvious that he has a strong faith in God. He has served as an usher and also as a lector for many years. Chuck helps with scorekeeping and announcing and Bishop Hogan basketball games and always cheers on the Eagles. Chuck has also been the MC for the Fall Festival for more than 30 years... Thank you Chuck, for all of your service and dedication to not only our Catholic community but the entire city of Chillicothe.”
