The U.S. Army Recruiting office recently presented Chillicothe Police Officer Michael Smith and Chillicothe Police Detective Jon Maples with awards of excellence. “They are without a doubt the finest officers I had the opportunity to meet in my 15 years in the U.S. Army,” said Staff Sgt. Gary L. Holley. “They performed in a stellar fashion ever since being assigned to the Chillicothe Police Department... They have easily distinguished themselves from their peers by their exceptional display of leadership, maturity, poise and consistant emphasis on excellence in all they do.” In making the presentation, Holley stated that the two exemplify the core attributes of citizens of Chillicothe. “They have also easily adapted to other leadership roles in the department and execute their tasks with flawless perfection,” he said. “Officer Smith and Detective Maples maintain the highest standards of loyalty to their unit and duty in the highest sense,” he said. “Day in and day out they demonstrate their devotion to the department, the city of Chillicothe, and the values that it demands.” Holley expressed appreciation to the officers for the support they have provided to the U.S. Army over the last few years. He also recognized Chillicothe Police Chief Rick Knouse for his contributions to the recruiting mission. Holley stated that Knouse’s hard work and dedication “reflect great credit upon himself, the city of Chilicothe and the United States of America.”
