May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary 2020 statistics indicate there were 173 crashes involving a motorcycle. In these crashes, 157 people were injured and 11 people were killed.
Make the MOST of May with MOST 529, Missouri’s 529 Education Plan. Throughout the month of May, the first 1,600 Missourians who open a MOST 529 account for a beneficiary aged 0-5 and schedule recurring contributions will receive a $50 contribution from MOST 529 to their new account.

Do you grow produce for sale in Missouri? If so, have you registered with the Missouri Department of Agriculture? Produce growers who complete the voluntary Grower Inventory Registration will help themselves and the Department determine if they are exempt, qualified exempt, or covered by the FDA Produce Safety Rule. In addition, the information gathered through the registration will also allow the Department to better assist growers by determining training locations and providing farm visits, notification of training, and On-Farm Readiness Reviews.
On May 1 the Grand River Historical Society and Museum is hosting a Spring Tea and the opening of several new exhibits at the Museum on May 1. New exhibits include one about Jerry Litton, Canterbury Music Store and the Utica Brick Plant.

Spring Clean-up CMU’s last Spring Citywide Clean-up will be April 23, from 8 a.m., to 12 p.m., and 1 to 4 p.m. Citywide Clean-up is for Chillicothe Residents Only.
Pollinators such as butterflies and bees are important to people and the natural world. They can also be classroom teaching tools. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering free virtual Buzz into Pollination workshops to help teachers incorporate pollinators into classroom instruction for grades 3 through 8. These virtual two-hour workshops will be offered at various dates and times this summer for teacher convenience.
Wildlife across the United States is in peril. State fish and wildlife agencies have collectively identified over 12,000 species of mammals, birds, fish and insects, many of which you have likely never heard of, as in need of proactive conservation measures. If passed, Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA) will provide funding necessary for such efforts.
Spring is just around the corner. Flowers will be blooming, and a sweet fragrance will be in the air! Missouri honey bees will smell those flowers and be in the air, too. On occasion, you will see a cloud of bees in the air or clumped together on a branch. That is a healthy swarm of honey bees moving on to a new home.
