Two very different departments in the Chillicothe R-II School District - the Music Department and the Business Department at the Grand River Technical School - have been named the recipients of $180,304.89, thanks to a donation made by the Chillicothe Education Foundation on behalf of the late Loraine M. Roark, of Chillicothe. And, as well as this sizable gift, a $5,000 scholarship in Loraine’s name will also be given annually to one qualifying Chillicothe High School Senior who is pursuing a degree in Business, Business Education, Music or Music Education; from a twoyear, four-year, or vocational learning institution.

The Missouri 4-H Foundation is accepting applications for current or former Missouri 4-H members pursuing postsecondary study. Applications must be completed on or before March 1, 2023.

JANUARY 15 9:28 a.m., a citizen came to the Police Department to pick up property. Officers spoke with the citizen and turned over the property.

Native wildflowers and grasses can add beauty to winter gardens and benefit wildlife such as songbirds. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free virtual Native Plants Winter Beauty class from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox has announced there will not be a basic law enforcement academy in Chillicothe. “The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) along with the Missouri Sheriffs’ Association had spent significant time in organizing a Basic Law Enforcement Academy to be held in Chillicothe later this month with graduation planned for December 2023,” Cox said in a press release.
