CHS to Compete for a Chance to Win Traffic Safety Pledge Contest

Chillicothe High School (CHS) is among a total of 64 participating Missouri high schools competing for a chance to win the AAA Buckle Up Phone Down High School Showdown (BUPD Showdown). The traffic safety educational program and pledge contest, developed by AAA Missouri in partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), teaches drivers and passengers about the dangers of cell phone distractions while behind the wheel, how to effectively limit distractions, and why it’s important to always wear a seat belt. From 2017 to 2021, 382 people have been killed on Missouri roadways in distracted driving related crashes, although that figure is likely unreported.

Giving Back: Neighbor Helping Neighbor

The Livingston County Cancer Assistance (LCCA) was founded in July of 2018 after Paul Howard was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Paul and Patricia wanted to make something positive happen in our community after this horrible diagnosis. The added costs of doctor visits, treatments and medications, put a burden on a patient and their family. Because Chillicothe is a very progressive community, it wasn’t difficult to begin raising money for Livingston County cancer patients.

Liberty United Methodist Church Celebrates Olive Fay Day

Olive Fay Day, inspired by an article written by Pastor Lisa Morris and published in The Missouri Methodists, was celebrated at Chillicothe’s Liberty United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 16. Olive served at Liberty (along with other churches in the charge) from her husband’s death in 1933 until 1944. She then served other rural churches in Livingston, Linn, Caldwell, Carroll, Grundy, and Mercer counties until her retirement in 1952.
