Andrew John Orton, 34, Fulton, faces two felonies in Livingston County after he allegedly stole a minivan and other items owned by Grand Oaks Camp on Oct. 3.
Clay Creech, 56, Sumner, has been found guilty and sentenced in Linn County Court in charges of Hindering Prosecution and Tampering With Physical Evidence. According to Linn County Prosecutor Shiante McMahon, last week, the court sentenced Creech to 10 days in jail on each count, execution of which was suspended, he was then placed on probation for two years.
Last week, State Auditor Nicole Galloway released a regularly scheduled audit of Grundy County. Similar to findings in prior audits of the county, the sheriff’s office is in need of stronger seized property controls and the Ambulance Department is in need of stronger accounting controls and procedures. The audit also recommended stronger cybersecurity protocols on county government computer systems.
CHS COLLEGE FAIR THURSDAY Chillicothe High School will be hosting a College Fair Thursday, Oct. 6, from 6:30-8 p.m.
“Candy Land Christmas” is the theme for the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2022 Holiday Parade. The Holiday Parade this year will be sponsored by HyVee, Sonoco, United Country Graham Agency, Liberty Utilities, McCoy Samples Mattingly Dental Clinic, Woody’s Automotive Group & Northwest Health Chillicothe. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Nov.19, in downtown Chillicothe and will include floats, bands, vehicles, animals, mascots, and, of course, Santa. All businesses, organizations, churches, youth groups, scout troops and schools are encouraged to have an entry for the parade. The 76th Annual Holiday Parade is organized by the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce through its Parade Committee.
Sheriff Steve Cox says Marty James Thorne, 52, Chula, has been arrested and charged with alleged class D felony Stealing a Firearm and class D felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.
After receiving information about a firearm possibly being in a student vehicle at Southwest School, on Sept. 30, law enforcement officials found a toy gun, knives and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle.
