Child Passenger Safety Week Is Sept. 18-24

The Missouri State Highway Patrol joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the National Safety Council, Safe Kids Worldwide, and other safety advocates to commemorate National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 1824, 2022). Every year, children suffer needless injuries. In 2021, 14 children under the age of eight were killed in traffic crashes, and another 1,749 were injured. Troopers issued citations to 1,185 drivers who failed to secure children less than eight years old in a child restraint/booster seat in 2021. Troopers issued citations to an additional 184 drivers who failed to secure a child 80 pounds or more or over 4’9” in a seat belt in 2021.

Stewards of Children: Child Abuse Prevention Training

Child abuse must end, now! As of today, at least one in seven children have experienced child abuse and/ or neglect in the last year. If that’s not bad enough, know about one in 10 children will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday and about 90% of children who are victims of sexual abuse know their abuser. This is happening in Northwest Missouri today. To end this trend, it is the responsibility of every adult to react responsibly.

FFA Participates in Chautauqua

Members of Chillicothe FFA participated in the 37th annual Chautauqua In the Park Sept. 10-11. FFA members provided an agriculture experience for over 1,000 youth and adults during the two day event. FFA members taught youth about first aid and what to do in an emergency. Mini First Aid Kits with emergency numbers were distributed to the first 200 families who attended.

Absentee Voting Machine Testing

To comply with Sections 115.233, RSMo, there will be a testing of the automatic absentee voting equipment on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m., in the Livingston County Courthouse County Clerk’s Office, Chillicothe. Representatives of the political parties, the news media, candidates and the public are invited to attend.
