Our hot Missouri summers have not kept local 4-Hers from one of the Midwest’s most recognizable youth activities. During June, July, and August, many counties across Missouri hold County Fairs, with most incorporating some component of animal and livestock shows. They also often include a 4-H project display filled with completed items. But like many Extension- related programs, each county fair is as different and unique as the counties themselves.

While lightning and other natural causes are responsible for some of these fires, human error can be blamed for many. Precaution could save tens of thousands of acres and more importantly, lives.

USDA Increases Funding for Partnerships to Safeguard, Restore Wetland Ecosystems

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing up to $20 million in fiscal year 2023 to help conservation partners nationwide protect and restore critical wetlands through the Wetland Reserve Enhancement Partnership (WREP). USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is prioritizing proposals that support efforts to mitigate climate change by restoring wetlands while also prioritizing assistance to underserved communities. Last year, NRCS funded $11 million in partnerships. Proposals from partners are due Sept. 23, 2022.

AUGUST 2 12:40 a.m., Officers responded to the 1400 block of Dorney Drive for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival Officers were able to diffuse the situation and the parties involved separated for the night.

Courage2Report: Sooner Is Safer!

The Courage2ReportMO program provides a safe and confidential way to report any concerns regarding their safety or the safety of others. These concerns may include: assault, bullying/repeated harassment, cyber bullying, fighting, guns, homicide, human trafficking, knife, planned school attack, imminent school shooting, school shooting threat, sexual offense, suicide-other person (3rd party), or a terrorism threat (extremism). Those reporting their concerns may remain anonymous by not providing their name. The Patrol received 743 reports through the Courage2Report programfrom Aug. 1, 2021, through May 24, 2022.

Missouri Veterans Commission to Host Free Legal Clinic for Drafting Wills and Powers of Attorney

The Missouri Veterans Commission (MVC), in conjunction with St. Joseph attorneys Emily Bauman, Jennifer McKinley and John Spencer, will be providing free legal assistance with wills and powers of attorney for local Veterans and their spouses. The event will take place on August 25, at the Law Offices of Tieman, Spencer & Hicks at 702 Felix Street, St. Joseph. The event isby appointment only and the last day to RSVP is August 19.
