Kids & Self-Esteem

Research tells us that by increasing your child’s self-esteem and self-awareness, you can help give your children protective factors. These protective factors are qualities that keep them from trying activities that can hurt them. Children who have protective factors tend to avoid underage drinking, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and school failure. A strong sense of self and an “I can do it!” attitude helps us deal with life’s frustrations. Children need to feel safe, secure, loved, and connected to a family.

CLOVER PRINCESS CANDIDATES

Hunter Grayse Samm is the 9 year old daughter of Scottie and Grayson Samm of Chillicothe. Hunter represents the Liberty 4-H Club. This is her 4th year in 4-H. This year in 4-H she participated in rabbits, cake decorating, and arts & crafts. Hunter has completed the 3 grade at Bishop Hogan Memorial School and is a member of St. Columban Catholic Church. She was a cheerleader for the Bishop Hogan Eagles basketball team. Hunter’s interests consist of dancing for Ballet Arts, playing basketball, softball, and gymnastics. She likes caring for her rabbits and dogs and spending time with her family.

JUNIOR PRINCESS CANDIDATES

Madison Elizabeth Wolf is the 11 year old daughter of Adam & Monica Wolf of Chillicothe. Maddie represents the Springhill Go-Getters 4-H Club where she has been a member for 3 years. This year in 4-H she participated in Swine and has won Reserve Champion Hampshire Barrow in 4-H shows &Open Shows. Madison has completed the 4th grade at Dewey Elementary. She was president of her class for a semester. She received 2nd place in the American Legion Essay Contest in 3rd grade and received 3rd place in the same writing contest in 4th grade. Maddie’s interests include God Squad at the United Methodist Church, reading, playing basketball, softball and the guitar.

PRINCESS CANDIDATES

Glenna McVey Barnett is the 14 year old daughter of Blaine & Molly Barnett of Chillicothe. Glenna represents the Springhill Go Getters where she has been a member for 4 years. Some of Glenna’s favorite 4-H projects have been horses and sheep. Special honors while in 4-H include Rookie 4-H member of the year and her club’s Treasurer. Glenna has completed the 8th grade by being Homeschooled. Glenna’s school and community activities include Salvation Army Christmas volunteer, Lifepoint Church food pantry volunteer, nursery volunteer and Vacation Bible School volunteer. Some of Glenna’s special talents and interests include riding her horses and showing in area horse shows. She also likes to spend time playing soccer, riding dirt bikes and 4 wheelers. When asked why she has chosen to be involved in 4-H, Glenna said “I live on a farm and think agriculture is important. I enjoy participating in livestock shows and teaching my friends and family about my various projects.”

QUEEN CANDIDATES

Jayce Laine Mollohan is the 17 year old daughter of Mike and Joyce Mollohan of Meadville. Jayce represents the Meadville FFA where she has been a member for 3 years. Her favorite contest team was entomology, which they qualified for state. She also enjoyed poultry judging and loves working in her personal greenhouse along with helping in her chapter’s greenhouse. For her SAE, Jayce has cured and shown her ham at the Livingston County and State Fair. She has won an Area FFA Proficiency in Agricultural Sales and Chapter Star in Agribusiness. Jayce will graduate from Meadville High School in 2023. Jayce’s school and community activities include serving as a Student Council Representative, National Honor Society, and attends Meadville Baptist Church where she helps with their annual VBS program. One of Jayce’s biggest interests is serving her community. She has helped with the Special Olympics, Joy Toys, and delivered meals for the Grand River Senior Center. Jayce enjoys sports and being outdoors, and working with plants and flowers. When asked why she had chosen to be involved in FFA, Jayce said “I wasn’t from a traditional farm, but my Ag teacher, Mr. Phillip Martin encouraged me to get involved in the leadership and speaking activities. I have grown to love the industry and have realized the impact agriculture has on everyone. FFA has taught me skills that I can take with me no matter where I go and they will benefit me in the long run.”

Donald Herring attended a Farm Bureau PAC meeting on Monday, June 27, in Jefferson City. Primary candidates for the U.S. Senate were invited. Nine questionnaires were sent out to six Republicans and three Democrats--one attended and one returned the questionnaire.

Roadway Deaths Down Slightly for the First Half of 2022

Following an especially deadly 2021, Missouri traffic fatalities have dropped 7% compared to this same time last year. Preliminary data shows from Jan. 1 - June 22, 413 people were killed in Missouri traffic crashes, down from 445 in the same period in 2021. The July Fourth holiday weekend marks the halfway mark of summer and the halfway point of the 100 deadliest days of summer, which has historically seen the highest number of traffic fatalities.
