The Chillicothe R-II Board of Education met at its regular monthly meeting March 18 with several issues of business to approve. Among key new business was a proposal by Dr. Dan Wiebers, district superintendent to approve a salary and welfare proposal for next year’s school year which would be determined by adjustments to the budget approved by the board for a total of $549,315 expenditure to invest in employees. The base salary of certified staff would increase to $49,169 which is a $420 increase. Salaries of certified employees would increase to meet the state’s legal requirements from Senate Bill 727 to $40,000. Classified base salaries would increase by 3.15 percent. Years of experience may also impact the increase for milestone years. The goal of the increase is to help Chillicothe R-II to hire, recruit, and retain staff. The motion was made by Mitch Holder to accept the recommendation and seconded by Bryce Walker. The motion carried unanimously. Along with that, Wiebers presented to the board a recommendation regarding support and professional staff leaves of absence for employee benefits. Jaime Pittman made a motion to approve this policy update and it was seconded by Allison Pickering. The motion carried by all board members in favor.
