Woody Found Guilty

Brooke Woody was found guilty of forgery by a Linn County jury on Friday, According to Linn County Prosecutor Shiante McMahon the case was investigated by the Brookfield Police Department and the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole. Sentencing will be Sept.

MOScholars Applications Open

Applications for MOScholars scholarships are now being accepted. To begin the application process, parents or guardians should contact an Educational Assistance Organization (EAO) partnered with the school they would like their child to attend. EAOs will prescreen student applicants to determine eligibility. Once prescreening is complete, the EAO will refer the applicant to the MOScholars online application portal.

NCMC Awarded over $1.4 Million to Help Low Income, Potential First Generation College Students Access Higher Education

The U.S. Department of Education announced that North Central Missouri College (NCMC) will receive a federal Upward Bound grant of $1,488,005 or $297,601 annually for five years to help more low-income students who would be the first members of their families to earn degrees to prepare for and enroll in college. NCMC has sponsored an Upward Bound Program since 1999 and serves 50 students per year. The high schools that will be served in the successful grant include Trenton, Brookfield, Chillicothe, Gallatin, Penney (Hamilton), and Tri-County (Jamesport).

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s securities division is warning Missourians about a recent increase in fraudulent schemes targeting owners of timeshare properties in Mexico. These scams involve individuals claiming to be representatives of a brokerage firm, travel agency, title company or escrow agent making contact with timeshare owners over the phone.
