May 2022 Monthly Jobs Report

Missouri non-farm payroll employment decreased by 3,100 jobs from April 2022 to May 2022, and the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by threetenths of a percentage point. Private industry employment decreased by 1,500 jobs and government employment decreased by 1,600 jobs. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.1% in May 2022, down from 3.4% in April 2022. Over the year, there was an increase of 71,800 jobs from May 2021 to May 2022, and the unemployment rate decreased by 1.4 percentage points, from 4.5% in May 2021 to 3.1% in May 2022.

Kids Art Saturday

“Kids Art Saturday” was held Saturday, June 11th at the Cultural Corner. Kids came from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. to make some fun art. Multiple projects were available for kids to do for $5 each. The Cultural Corner holds the event several times a year for children.

Livingston County Democrats Meet

The Livingston County Democrats met on Tuesday, June 7, at the Livingston County Library. There were 13 members and five guests attending. Local updates were discussed and guest, Josh Vance, introduced himself and spoke to the club regarding his upcoming candidacy for Missouri House of Representatives. The club will meet again on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Courtroom of the Livingston County Library, in Chillicothe, 450 Locust Street, all are welcome to attend.

Report shows how broadband adoption will help grow rural economies

A recent analysis shows how expansion and adoption of internet services in three northwestern Missouri counties could help grow their economies in the decade ahead. The report, “Economic Benefits of Expanding Broadband in Missouri: Atchison, Gentry and Worth Counties,” makes the case for public and private investment in rural broadband, said Alan Spell, assistant extension professor in agricultural and applied economics at the University of Missouri.
