The avian influenza (AI) has some residents questioning if it is safe to feed hummingbirds and other birds this year. The answer is yes, according to Robert Piece, Associate Extension Professor in Fisheries and Wildlife for the University of Missouri Extension. Dr. Pierce added, “Evidence does not indicate at this time that widespread removal of feeders is necessary or an effective way of reducing the spread.” In addition, songbirds do not appear to be major carriers of the virus. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages the public to discover nature this summer during frogging season. Beginning June 30 at sunset through Oct. 31, those with a fishing permit or small-game hunting permit may frog for bullfrogs and green frogs.
Tara Diegelman is the new director of the Cultural Corner Art Guild & Gallery. Diegelman, a Chillicothe native, said she has always been an arts lover, so when this position became available she knew it would be a great fit for her.
Hedrick Medical Center (HMC) added advanced practice provider Jayme DeVoy to the hospitalist team. Hospitalists are physicians and advanced practice providers who specialize in hospital-based care. They coordinate all aspects of care for patients who are in the hospital. The hospitalist, along with the patient’s primary care provider and other specialists involved with treatment, works as a team to ensure the patient receives the right care in a timely manner.
A resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 36 in Livingston County has been postponed. Originally scheduled to begin Monday the project is now scheduled to begin today, June 8. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has contracted with Herzog Contracting Corp. to complete the project which extends eastbound from Route C to Parson’s Creek, just over the Linn County line, and westbound from Parson’s Creek to Coon Creek. The contractor’s new planned schedule of work is as follows:
At the end of the school year, Carol McCloud’s fourth grade class at Bishop Hogan Memorial School was treated to a” Pizza Party with a Veteran”. It was one of the items auctioned off at Bishop Hogan’s Annual Dinner Auction and was purchased by Stephanie and Chris Anderson, parents of 4th grader Ethan Anderson. Students also got to sit in their military Humvee!
The Missouri Supply Chain Task Force’s draft report is now available for public review and comment following a six-monthlong survey into supply chain issues. The report was presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission at its monthly meeting June 2 for review.
State Budget Director Dan Haug announced the net general revenue collections for May 2022 increased 46.2 5compared to those for May 2021, from $1.22 billion last year to $1.78 billion this year. Net general revenue collections for 2022 fiscal year-to-date increased 13.9% compared to May 2021, from $10.02 billion last year to $11.41 billion this year.
