Saturday, June 4 “Heritage Days at the Museum”

Are you ready to have some fun and learn about heritage arts? Join area artisans at the Ronald Wilder Traditional Arts Center on Saturday, June 4 to see looms, spinning wheels, inkle looms, forges, and other heritage tools in action? Or maybe you would like to see how it feels to throw a shuttle or draft some fiber? The Traditional Arts Center is located in the basement of the Bethel Black History Museum formerly the Bethel AME Church, acfross the street from the Grand River Historical Society, with plenty of on-street parking. There will be opportunities to learn, create and even purchase items from local artisans. Kid’s activities will include tie-dyeing, spindling, and more! And you won’t have to leave the site to find food thanks to Daniel Savage and the Elks who will be cooking up a storm with hot dogs and burgers and cool soda to wash it down. Lemonade will also be for sale – all proceeds going to the Museum to fund upcoming programs. Music and additional exhibits in the Bethel Black History Museum, so bring an instrument and “jam” with local musicians - the acoustics are amazing! Antique vehicles will also be on display as well as new exhibits at the main Museum building including a Jerry Litton exhibit. So bring the whole family on June 4 and celebrate our heritage at the Museum.

MEMORIAL DAY CLOSINGS The following businesses or government offices will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day: Chillicothe License Office, Constitution-Tribune, Livingston County Health Office, Livingston County Courthouse, Chillicothe City Hall, and all state offices. BLUE MOUND CEMETERY MEETING TO BE HELD There will be a business meeting at 2 p.m., on May 29 at Blue Mound Cemetery followed by a service by Ray Blakely.

Deshayes Completes Eagle Scout Project

Evan Deshayes, son of Heather and Jon Deshayes of Minnesota, completed his Eagle Scout project at Bishop Hogan Memorial School. Evan was a former student of Bishop Hogan before he moved out of state. He obtained donations to complete landscaping with rock and pavers around the flagpole in front of the school. He also had a stone bench engraved in memory of the late Zach Holland to place in front of the flagpole area. The dedication of his project and a large American flag was presented to Principal Pam Brobst on the last day of school, while the Bishop Hogan students looked on. Scout leaders, fellow scout members, and Evan’s family attended the dedication ceremony.

The Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic announced a new program to partner with medical students from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. This partnership will involve collaboration between the two professional schools with regard to securing Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability compensation benefits for veterans.

NIH grant will help research lack of breastfeeding in rural Missouri

Karry Weston, a nurse and doctoral student at the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing, has worked in maternal child health for almost 20 years, helping to deliver babies and care for newborns. Among her main focusses are educating mothers about their newborns and postpartum care, including their decision to breastfeed or use formula.
