Are you ready to have some fun and learn about heritage arts? Join area artisans at the Ronald Wilder Traditional Arts Center on Saturday, June 4 to see looms, spinning wheels, inkle looms, forges, and other heritage tools in action? Or maybe you would like to see how it feels to throw a shuttle or draft some fiber? The Traditional Arts Center is located in the basement of the Bethel Black History Museum formerly the Bethel AME Church, acfross the street from the Grand River Historical Society, with plenty of on-street parking. There will be opportunities to learn, create and even purchase items from local artisans. Kid’s activities will include tie-dyeing, spindling, and more! And you won’t have to leave the site to find food thanks to Daniel Savage and the Elks who will be cooking up a storm with hot dogs and burgers and cool soda to wash it down. Lemonade will also be for sale – all proceeds going to the Museum to fund upcoming programs. Music and additional exhibits in the Bethel Black History Museum, so bring an instrument and “jam” with local musicians - the acoustics are amazing! Antique vehicles will also be on display as well as new exhibits at the main Museum building including a Jerry Litton exhibit. So bring the whole family on June 4 and celebrate our heritage at the Museum.

The free Kids Fishing Derby is returning after a three year hiatus due to COVID. The North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance (NMCA) will be hosting a free Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 4, at the perfect fishing pond, located on the west side of The Baptist Home, just east of U.S.

The old county office building erected in about 1872 came down last week. Most old commercial buildings have walls that are three bricks thick, according to the contractor, but this one had walls four bricks thick. The mortar between the bricks was badly deteriorated and the brick walls had large gaps between the layers in many places. The overhanging roof may have helped hold the north and south walls in place.

Over the last three weeks restrooms at Danner and Simpson parks have been vandalized. Some of the damage could cost as much as $1000 to repair.

Awards were given, field days experienced, graduation ceremonies held and schools out for summer! Sweet, sweet summer time! The Ludlow Lions softball and baseball teams have been playing games since May 7 with tee ball kicking off the season in Ludlow on a beautiful spring day. A very entertaining level to watch.

Kyle Jones, Custodian from Chillicothe, has been selected as North Central Missouri College’s (NCMC) Outstanding Employee for May. He is a new employee and has already shown his excellent work ethic.
